COST Action IS1405: Building Intrapartum Research Through Health – an interdisciplinary whole system approach to understanding and contextualising physiological labour and birth (BIRTH)

The meeting was attended by 56 members of the COST Action from across Europe, 1 colleague from Chile and 2 from South Africa.
Proceedings opened on Monday 14th March 2016 at 09.00 with a meeting of the Core Group. Following lunch, Chair of the Action, Professor Soo Downe, welcomed all participants to the meeting and chaired a plenary session. This session explored the work of the Action to date, including presentations by the Working Group leads and discussed the work that was planned for the next years by Working Groups in relation to the MOU of the Action. This was followed by a workshop on Obstetric Violence by COST Action members Ms. Michelle Sadler and Dr. Ibone Olza. After this Naseerah Akooji lead a presentation on the progress of the B3 (Babies Born Better) survey with contributions from colleagues from Portugal, Spain, Croatia and Hungary. The meeting concluded with meetings for the Early Career Researchers (ECR) and for Working Group 6.
The second day of the meeting opened at 09.00 on Tuesday 15th March 2016 with an address by Vice Dean of the college, Erica Schytt and music by Rigmor D. Titt and Egil Haugland from the music department of Bergen University College . This was followed by meetings of all Working Groups during the morning and afternoon with a final plenary session to feedback the outcomes of these sessions and to highlight the plans of the groups for the next years of the Action. Meetings were also held by the activist group met to network and work on links between the Action, the STSM Committee and the B3 survey group.
The final day of the Action commenced at 09.00 on Wednesday 16th March 2016 with the Action’s Management Committee meeting lead by the Chair of the Action, Professor Downe. The meeting ended at 12.30.
